The walk departed from the Paseo Juan Aparicio, at the Man of the Sea Statue to the Soraya cafe and back, to support women suffering from breast cancer and their families, with more than five hundred people showing their solidarity to the cause. There were two information desks from the AECC set up; one at the Man of the Sea monument, and another at the Soraya cafeteria. At both desks they had brochures and information on early diagnosis and several articles with the World Day Against Breast Cancer. One of the many walkers, Jenny said: The Marcha por la Vida was due to start at 11.00am but the queue grew and grew and it was about 11.15am when we set off. By the time I got to the head of the queue the organisers had run out of pink t-shirts and number plates but the rest of us got a little pink ribbon buttonhole and a bag with sun cream samples. The numbers went up to over 800 and beyond and there could have been over 1000 people taking part. The prom was overtaken by people in pink t-shirts who went right along to the cafe Soraya and back. A wave of men, women, kids, babies in buggies and dogs. A great success.” Yesterday, Monday October 19th was World Day Against Breast Cancer, and more information desks were set up around the city on Calle Concepción, local health centres, Carrefour and the University Hospital of Torrevieja, to raise awareness about breast cancer and how to detect early detection.
