Making the Connection\r\nBY DR. LENI WILDFLOWER, PCC A N D DIANE BRENNAN, MBA, MCC\r\n\r\nWe set out to write “The Handbook of Knowledge Based Coaching: From Theory to Practice” in response to a felt need among coaches and clients. The coaching profession was growing rapidly, with the number of both coaches and coach-training programs climbing every year.\r\n\r\nIn the area of coaching literature, there were numerous well-written, technically skillful books available on how to\r\ncoach. In more limited supply, however, were books that\r\nexplored the theoretical background of coaching. What\r\nwe felt was missing from the\r\ncoaching library was a book that\r\nbrought these two together,\r\ncovering an extensive range of\r\ndisciplines and traditions and,\r\nfor each, directly linking theory\r\nand practice.\r\n\r\nAlthough exploring the theoretical roots of coaching requires us to\r\nlook backward, it’s an endeavor that will help ensure a dynamic future\r\nfor the profession.
