Coaching World Issue 15: August 2015 | Page 5

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of interviewing ICF Global Past President Steve Mitten, MCC (Canada), as part of a project our team is working on for ICF’s 20th anniversary. During our conversation, Steve shared the memory of attending his first ICF Chapter meeting: “It was a very humble meeting—just two or three people there; they were borrowing somebody’s office, and you just had the sense that this was a really … ground-floor, grassroots organization.” Editor’s Note The Only Constant Although the group was small, Steve said, their passion was immense. “That’s something you see over and over again in coaching circles,” he reflected. People are really passionate about what they’re doing.” ICF has evolved dramatically in the last two decades, but the passion Steve remembers so well from his first chapter meeting has remained a constant, pushing us toward our collective vision of coaching as an integral part of society with every ICF Member representing the highest quality of professional coaching. In pursuit of this audacious vision, our association is constantly changing to ensure our continued ability to lead the global advancement of the coaching profession. In the last quarter alone, ICF has implemented a revised Code of Ethics (learn more on page 14), refined our mission and vision statements to better reflect ICF’s core philosophy, invested in software solutions to ensure a more pleasant and efficient experience for credentialing candidates and accreditation applicants, and added three full-time staff positions (a strategic projects manager, a content coordinator in the research and education department, and a director of marketing and outreach for the ICF Foundation). All of these changes point to our ongoing growth and development as an organization. This issue of Coaching World is a celebration of change. In this issue, you’ll find actionable tips for changing your feelings about public speaking (page 18), insights into how you can change your approach to business development (page 15) and steps you can take to change your online reputation for the better (page 8). As we move toward the final months of 2015 and look ahead to 2016, I want to ensure that CW changes and evolves to meet your needs.
