Valerie McKnight , R e s i d e n t o f t h e M o n t h

Valerie is the only child of Denzell and Irene Cotner . She was born on Nov . 8 , 1952 in Pocatello , Idaho . Valerie loved to play with Barbie dolls and loved playing with her pet poodle , “ Metto .” She would even dress him up and push him around in a stroller . He didn ’ t always like the stroller , and if he jumped out , she would put him right back in and continue playing .
Her father died when she was 7 years old in a mining accident so she and her mother moved to California . They later moved to Oregon ,
Peggy Buckmaster where she went to school . Valerie enjoyed being a cheerleader in the eighth grade and playing the organ . Her first car was a white dodge dart ; she loved getting to drive it to school and football games , “ It made me feel like # 1 .”
Valerie met Bill McKnight and they were married in 1971 . They had three children ; one son and two daughters , but divorced after 20 years together . Valerie says family is very important to her . She ’ s the proud mother of three , grandmother of four , and great-grandmother of two with another one on the way . One of her holiday traditions is getting together with her family and playing Bunco together . In 2009 Valerie moved back to Missouri to be closer to her son . She worked for 10 years at Holiday Express and as a nurse ’ s aide in several places . Valerie says things have changed a lot since then , but she has a great respect for what they do . She enjoys crocheting , reading , coloring , listening to music , especially Elvis , and the color purple .
Valerie has been a part of the Citizens Memorial Healthcare Facility family since September 2016 . She enjoys playing Bingo and meeting new friends . “ Everyone is real nice here , and I like everything here ,” says Valerie . Her favorite food is the lemon meringue pie ; she smiles as she tells me every time they serve it she wants to ask , “ Can I have two ?”
Congratulations , Valerie , on being chosen the Resident of the Month .
