WELCOME TO THERAPY AT CMH
Physical, speech and occupational therapy are
available at various locations throughout the
CMH system. Prior to starting any type of therapy program, it is important to consider your
needs and the requirements of your physician.
At CMH, we are proud to provide our patients
the peace-of-mind of working with licensed
therapists who work closely with your physician.
Physical therapy rehabilitation services include
orthopedic, neurologic, vestibular, and industrial rehabilitation. Therapy services include
cardio-pulmonary, custom orthotics, functional
movement assessments, aquatic, manual therapy
and lymphedema therapy.
Speech therapy involves assisting patients with
speech, language, comprehension and expression. They work with people to help with memory, orientation, thought organization, voice
control, and alternate non-speech communication. Swallowing disorders are addressed using
state-of-the-art Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation
of Swallowing (FEES) studies and VitalStim.
The services offered help patients with functional
tasks, verbal expression, speech clarity, and understanding instructions. Additional services are
offered to help with reading, writing, cognition
or problem solving for patients of all ages.
Occupational therapy helps patients with learning to perform many of the routine daily activities we all experience including bathing, dressing
and grooming. Services offered include splinting and fabrication of orthopedic devices; hand
therapy; adaptive aid training; pediatric neurodevelopmental therapy; arthritis self-help exercises;
work-related injuries; techniques to compensate
for visual impairments; positioning programs;
community integration; techniques to overcome
aging challenges; wheelchair/seating assessments,
orthopedic upper extremity rehab; cognitive
retraining, compensatory techniques following
stroke and neuromuscular re-education.
PEDIATRIC THERAPY
Whether you’re looking for every day or
weekly support for your child, the pediatric
rehabilitation staff at CMH will assist you and
your child in meeting your child’s rehabilitation
goals. Staff work with physicians, parents
and guardians to establish a care plan based
upon the patient’s needs. Speech, physical
and occupational therapy are provided for
children ages 18 and under in a professional and
nurturing environment.
ACUTE THERAPY IN A LONG-TERM
CARE SETTING
The therapy program at all CMH longterm care facilities provides those who need
transitional care with a physical, speech and or
occupational therapy care plan geared toward
regaining strength, movement and confidence,
so patients can return home. The acute therapy
team includes physical therapists, occupational
therapists, speech therapists, nursing, social
services and a dietitian. The therapy teams
exude enthusiasm and passion for helping their
patients reach their goals so they can get back
to normal activity levels.
