Located within 100 yards of the Mississippi River and adjacent to Heritage Canyon in Fulton, IL, the Center is dedicated to providing insight into, appreciation for, and conservation of our local natural resources. This facility is open year round. The river is closed to navigation annually from mid-December to the first part of March. This lock & dam, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, allows for viewing bald eagles during the winter months, from November to March. Public lock & dam tours are held Sundays at 1 p.m. between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. Special group tours may be arranged by calling the park rangers. Covered Bridge Crosby Road | Morrison, IL Step back in time when you visit Whiteside County’s very own covered bridge. Located north of Highway 30 off of Orange St., the bridge is on the way to Morrison-Rockwood State Park. Fulton Windmill 10th Avenue & 1st Street | Fulton, IL 815-589-4545 | www.cityoffulton.us Fulton’s authentic Dutch Windmill, “De Immigrant,” was prefabricated in the Netherlands and erected by Dutch craftsmen. The windmill sits on the flood control dike and houses Fulton’s Welcome Center and gift shop. This is open from June through September daily and weekends in May and October. The buildings sit in an old limestone quarry that was purchased in 1967 by Harold and Thelma Wierenga and converted to preserve the integrity of the natural surroundings. The museum house several antiques, a genealogy research room and Fulton memorabilia. Winter sports such as ice fishing, ice skating, and cross-country skiing are also popular at the park. Located north of Morrison in Whiteside County, the park comprises 1,150 acres. The concession area offers a full range of bait and tackle supplies, as well as boat rental.
