quality for the series.
“We’re not coming back and just blowing stuff up. We’re
developing everything a lot more: our storylines are a lot deeper,
we’re learning more about these women on a personal level, we see
a lot more friendships form between women you didn’t think would
interact, some new rivalries, and you see a lot more of our male
characters on a personal level as well.”
Season 1 was a great basepoint to jump off into season 2. To add
to the intensity of the current season, the wrestling moves are bigger,
and hair and makeup is on point.
Young is a very strong woman, and GLOW has been a great way
to send out a message of empowerment to the fans. Young wants
everyone who watches the show to be inspired to go out and try
something new, especially if it pushes their boundaries a little.
“We really want people to feel a sense of empowerment in
whatever way they see relevant to them.”
She wants her fans to realize that limitations are in our own
minds, and as long as they have dedication and are willing to put the
work in to break free of those obstacles, then they will.
Young was also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for
Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for
her part as Carmen. Young was honored to receive the nomination.
“The honor is bestowed upon you by your fellow actors which I
think is so amazing. It’s people in your line of work recognizing and
appreciating your work.”
She felt so proud and accepted amongst a huge community of
actors who love and support her. It was an overwhelmingly
positive experience.
Achieving her goals as an actor has not presented itself with an
easy path. It has been hard for Young to get to where she is today.
One of the most challenging aspects, for Britney, of being an actor is
getting casting directors to see the potential that she saw in herself.
“People have these ideas of what they want these characters to
be and they stick so hard to those ideas that they don’t want to see
anyone outside the box.”
Film and television are meant to be diverse, yet there is still a
long way to go. Even with her role on GLOW Young has a hard time
getting casting directors to consider her for a role.

Additionally, the acting business is hard to get used to. After
projects, actors will have stretches of time when they aren’t working.
For Young, who has been working nonstop since college and always
made sure she was financially secure, having these stretches was
very scary. Despite these difficulties Young is devoted, talented, and
determined to persevere through these struggles because she loves
being an actor.
Throughout this journey in the film industry, Young’s mind has been
opened to other aspects of the business she’d like to be involved in.
“I want to direct, I want to produce, I want to develop shows. If
I meet people and make connections I can go ahead and start building
my production empire. It’s really opened my eyes to other goals.”
Young wants to impact the industry in a positive way.
As someone who is a huge movie buff, Young has the goal of going
into movie acting.
“The one thing I’m striving for right now is the role of Faith
from Valiant Comics, the plus sized superhero. I’m trying to get
that role hard. Playing a superhero would be amazing to do and this
could be my opportunity.”
Like a true superhero, Young is an incredibly giving person. She
wants to be able to open the door for other actors who don’t have the
opportunity to succeed because they are outside the box individuals
like herself. As a production assistant, she’s seen so many actors
turned away even though they would be bringing new talent to the
cast. Yet this talent is overlooked because of gender or race.
“I want to bring new voices out there and give people the chance
that they’re not getting anywhere else, I know what that feels like. So, if
I can start opening doors for other people I think that would be a great
thing to do.”
While the plans for a production empire are brewing, Young
has decided to return to the cast of My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend for
its final season. For now she’s going to auditions and waiting for
season 3 of GLOW.
