“ They ’ re just resonating with the fact that all of us deep down have a part in us that are lonely , and some of us not deep down , some of us wear it on our sleeve ,” Symon said . “ You could be in a room filled with people and still feel lonely and you could be in a room alone and not feel lonely at all . I think that there ’ s always a part of me in my heart that is lonely and I feel most people can relate to that and also can relate to someone treating them poorly .”
That last part directly relates to Symon ’ s personal inspiration for the song .
“ There was a group of people that betrayed me more than any one ever has in my life ,” Symon said . “ It was one of the hardest times in my life , as you can imagine when people betray you and sabotage things and did just terrible things . The first time I got into the studio as a solo artist , that had just happened .”
Music is the obvious passion for Symon , but there ’ s something else that she ’ s just as passionate about . Sign language . It started in high school when she needed to take another language .
“ I remember seeing sign language on the list for another extra language and I was like , oh my god , that would be really ,
really cool . I ’ d never seen that offered ,”
Symon said . “ I remember walking into my classroom the first day and seeing this beautiful teacher standing at the front , smiling and welcoming . I walked up to go talk to her and she was deaf . My whole thing as a person , why I love to create and why I love to perform is because I ’ m a connector with people . That ’ s why I love all different art forms , whether that ’ s me and my radio show or me with acting or me with performing and being a singer , an artist , I love to connect . And the same goes to my life with people . So it was like , what ? I can ’ t communicate with this woman ?”
Symon said she fell in love with sign while taking that class , even if the rest of her high school experience wasn ’ t so good . Actually , according to her it was more like she , “ became so obsessed with it .” When the time came to put out a lyric video for “ Lonely Girl ”, the opportunity was too good to pass up .
“ I always knew that later in my life I wanted to bridge my two passions of music and sign , you know my personal passion with my public persona ,” Symon said . “ I just thought , what a full circle it would be for this song , for ‘ Lonely Girl ’. I really fell so in love with this language during one of my lonely

periods in my life when I was dealing with that battle in school . Such a dark period but such light came out of it .”
Just like with the song itself , reaction to the lyric video , which features Symon signing along with the lyrics to the song , was huge .
“ My YouTube froze the first day because it was trending the day it came out which was insane that ’ s never happened to me ,” Symon said . “ I just feel like people are sick of bullshit , people are sick of façade . People want true art , people want to feel , and that ’ s real life .”
“ I just think that right now , there ’ s so much darkness and negativity going on in our world that it was just really cool to have something with a little bit more depth and with a story behind it . I think people want real and it really does fill my heart with that fact that people are really reacting this way to something that ’ s so authentic to me .”
With Symon bringing her unique self to her music , her radio show Hits 1 in Hollywood on the Sirius XM channel , Hits 1 , or soon to acting , she ’ s open to going wherever she can create something that everyone will say is Symon .
“ I ’ m kind of at the point where I love creating , I love all formats of art , and the way they make me feel as an artist , so it ’ s like bring it all on ! Let ’ s do it !” BY MICHAEL BOYLAN / PHOTOGRAPHED BY BEAU SIMMONS www . clichemag . com 57
