industrynews ADVOCATING APPRENTICESHIPS Regency Glass Ltd came runners up in the North West Region Employer of the Year awards that took place at the new Co-op building in Manchester. Run by the National Apprenticeship service, the awards recognise training and employee support. Regency Glass Ltd was put forward by the North Lancs Training Group against large companies and organisations such as Barclays Bank, Co-Op and Manchester City Council. Being presented with the runners up trophy by Pete Waterman, himself an advocate for apprenticeships, Regency Director Wayne Fitzmartin commented, ‘Having previously won the award outright, we are very happy that our continuous support for the apprenticeship scheme has been further recognised. Along with the NVQ’s that all staff is supported through, we value the credibility that the training and investment we put forward to our staff benefits our company as a whole.’ Regency assistant Production Manager, Gary Fitzmartin, also came runner up in the Apprentice Champion of the Year category. Having began work at Regency Glass over 15 years ago at the age of 16, Gary comments, ‘I am proud of this award as it recognises the importance of becoming qualified and the opportunities that the apprenticeship scheme offers.” BOOSTING HOPE66 CHARITY TALLY NEARER HOME As 22 members of the Hope66 charity cycling team set off to ride the length of the iconic Route 66 in the United States, VS manufacturer Quickslide decided to have some fun while raising cash towards the epic ride. Bolstering the latest bid to raise money for the Hope House Children’s Hospices that have become the unofficial ‘official’ charity of many in the glass & glazing industry, Quickslide donated £2 for every window and door sold whilst the riders were en route.
