FROMTHEEDITOR THE ‘GREED’ DEAL? Writing on the controversial news that the biggest beneficiaries of the Green deal are likely to be the ‘big six’ energy efficiency companies, Jim Moody of Tradelink this month asks on page 10 whether this should be really called the “Greed Deal”. Meanwhile, a survey by the Energy Saving Trust claims an encouraging increase in consumer interest in double glazing, under the Green Deal. This is set to be a year of colourful opportunities and diversification, says Terry Richardson, MD of TWR and author of our regular “Bi-fold Doctor” column. CHANGES AT CLEARVIEW Finally, this is the last issue of Clearview for me in the role of Editor, as I am now handing over the reins to my competent, enthusiastic (and annoyingly glamorous!) My email remains the same: pat@clearviewuk.com and you can contact Becky with your news and views at: becky@clearview-uk.com LET’S VIEW THE OFT LETTER IN A POSITIVE WAY The OFT’s decision to write to leading companies in the energy industry regarding the importance of good practice may annoy some people who are sensitive to what seems to be continued criticism of this sector; but this is part of a wider initiative to raise compliance standards across the board. That followed revelations from a recent OFT review which found instances of high pressure sales, unclear information provided to consumers and poor quality installations. So let’s view this in a positive way, as part of this industry’s own efforts to clean up its act and boost consumer confidence. At some stage, it would be good to have another review that showed a distinct lack of “rotten apples” in our particular barrel, instead of the kind of full-on media exposure of shoddy, unacceptable sales tactics as revealed recently on BBC Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine Show. BUSY GGF Following a slightly delayed launch of its impressive new Media Hub, the GGF managed to kick off the New Year with much activity, which we report on in this issue including its pledge to continue fighting the fraudsters, a new video and micro-site - and a welcome for the Government’s U-turn on the proposed consequential improvements plan. The excitement is almost palpable now as The FIT Show draws nearer. Our preview in this issue gives an insight into what will undoubtedly be a brilliant event, the like of which the industry has not seen before.
