Huge
opportunities
in booming
aluminium sector
Says MD of specialist fabricator.
Following the announcement
by the Aluminium Federation
(ALFED) that investment in
Britain’s aluminium sector is
‘lagging’, CDW Systems’ MD
Jerry Webb says that installers
should focus on the positives
and take advantage of the
many opportunities in the
booming aluminium sector.
Jerry said that emphasis
should be placed on the sector’s
achievements: “CDW Systems
is a national supplier across
the UK and we take a great
deal of interest in how our
sector is represented in the
UK and globally. With global
demand for aluminium set to
double by 2025 there are huge
opportunities to grasp.
“In the UK the aluminium
sector is booming, with
domestic demand rising and
many installers finding lucrative
business opportunities in this
sector. We’ve experienced record
trading periods over the last
couple of years and we have
worked with many installers
to help them grow their
business.” Jerry recently called
on government to consider a
reduction in VAT charged on
all domestic and commercial
building work, to help further
boost manufacturing output
and increase demand in the
commercial and domestic
glazing sector.”

transform a former run-down
block of flats in Liverpool.
The PVC-U and aluminium
window and door fabricator
installed ‘A’-rated Secured by
Design-accredited windows,
finished in an RAL 7016 shade,
at Prescot House in Old Swan as
part of a £1 million refurbishment
of the 1960s three-storey
building.
Other extensive works to
the Liverpool Mutual Homes
property included external wall
insulation with coloured rendered
panels and completely new
interiors, creating 13 modern
energy-efficient apartments.

Government announces £27 million
pot for coastal economies
The Government has unveiled £27 million
of spending power for local authorities
in coastal areas, to be used in job and
apprenticeship creation.
Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny
Alexander and Communities Secretary Rt
Hon Eric Pickles announced that just over
fifty projects would benefit from the pot.
The Ministers also announced that bidding
for the next round of the £64 million Coastal
Communities Fund is now open and that bids
on coastal flood protection and repair would
be prioritised.

This Fund will be equal to 50% of the
revenues generated by the Crown Estate’s
marine assets
Danny Alexander said: “The Coastal
Communities Fund allows us to help
communities across the UK to rebuild and
regenerate their local economy, with projects
this year supporting nearly 4,000 jobs and
1,000 training places.
“This is even more important given the
extreme weather and I’m very pleased we’re
giving £17 million of the fund to projects
in areas hit by floods. Additionally, we have
invested £5 million from the fund’s reserve
into the government’s programme for flood
recovery.”
