colour The Origins of Coloured PVC Colourcode was established in 1999, originally spray coating PVC windows and fascias after managing director, John Wood, saw an opportunity to introduce colour due to the many grey-framed windows that were being installed into the high rises of Manchester. John became an accomplished painter and spotted very early on that a massive trend for coloured frames was about to hit the window trade. In fact, Colourcode was partly responsible for pioneering the colouring of frames, being one of the only companies in the UK to initially offer a frame spraying service. “In the beginning, the majority of our business was for new-build high-rise developments, painting PVC frames in aluminium colours as a cheaper alternative for architects to specifying aluminium frames,” explains John. “As a result, we experienced rapid growth in the first 2 years prompting a move to larger premises. By 2007 we were operating from 12,000 sqft premises with 3 spray booths. “The next step was to diversify into spraying metal and timber frames as well as offering a dual colour option on bi-folding doors, in response to an increasing demand for these products. “This source of business comes from fold and slide and bifold customers in Lancashire and the North West but we also have a national spread and recently exhibited at the FIT Show in Telford where visitors were eager to place orders for sizeable contracts,” John added. Over the last 3 years Colourcode has further expanded its capabilities, manufacturing frames as well as colouring and fitting them. And as more and more manufacturers tap in to the coloured frame market, Colourcode has seen an opportunity in helping fabricators reduce waste of coloured profile by reclaiming mismatched profile offcuts and spraying it all one colour, allowing a completely new frame to made from what might otherwise have been discarded. This offers both cost and environmental benefits to fabricators. As a longstanding and successful business, Colourcode’s strengths lie in its ability to continuously innovate and adapt in a changing market. What began by identifying a niche area has now grown into supporting a growing trend that has been adopted industry wide. It’s experience and expertise mean Colourcode well placed to help fabricators and installer take full advantage of colourful opportunities currently in high demand.
