ECOBUILDPREVIEW NEW GOVERNMENT PARTNERSHIP TO DRIVE UK GREEN CONSTRUCTION GROWTH A new Government partnership has been forged between UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and Ecobuild (www.ecobuild. co.uk) to attract inward investment and drive export growth for the UK green construction sector. Supporting Government’s ‘Construction 2025’ aims to ensure the UK continues to thrive in the face of increasing global competition, UKTI will bring senior international buyers from across the sustainable built environment from as far afield as the USA, Russia, India and Saudi Arabia to meet with the UK industry’s leading suppliers at the 2014 event (4th – 6th March 2014, ExCeL London). CALL FOR RESEARCH PAPERS: THE IMPACT OF THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT ON WELLBEING A new research programme focused on the impact the built environment has on wellbeing is being launched in partnership by BRE and publishers UBM Built Environment. To initiate the programme, BRE and UBM have announced a research paper competition to bring together and showcase current research and understanding in this field. The authors of the two best papers will present their findings at a seminar at Ecobuild 2014 in London in March. Building professionals are invited to submit papers detailing recent development projects and the positive and negative effects identified: for example, how high indoor CO2 levels may affect productivity, or how noise or pollution impact on communal outdoor space. 24 FEB 2014 Submissions should cover building projects and research carried out within the last three years on commercial or domestic properties. Papers should not exceed 3000 words in total and must include a summary of: • The background and context in which the research was carried out • The methodology adopted • Technical work completed • Key outcomes/results obtained and conclusions drawn from the project Previously published research papers are eligible for submission (please indicate the date and location of publication). ECOBUILD HOST 2014 CLIMATE WEEK LAUNCH Ecobuild and the organisers of Climate Week are delighted to announce that the official launch of this year’s Climate Week will be held on site at Ecobuild. It seemed only fitting that Ecobuild (4 – 6 March, ExCeL London), the world’s largest event for sustainable design, construction and the built environment, would once again work with Climate Week, Britain’s biggest climate change campaign. Climate Week 2014 will run from the 3rd to the 9th of March with the official launch taking place at in The North Arena at Ecobuild on Tuesday 4th at 1.30pm. The campaign is endorsed by politicians and celebrities including the Prime Minister, David Cameron, Sir Paul McCartney, footballer Gary Neville and the Chairman of the Committee on Climate Change, Lord Deben. The national launch will kick off a programme of over 3,000 events designed to raise awareness of the dangers of climate change and suggest solutions to combat the problem. Chaired by founder Kevin Steele, the launch will include the announcement of the winners of the Climate Week Awards, nominations for which have just opened.
