DOORS&WINDOWS PLAY YOUR CARDS RIGHT TO WIN WITH EUROCELL! A South Yorkshire business is celebrating its win in Eurocell’s £5,000 Golden Joker giveaway. Nexgen, based in Goldthorpe, near Barnsley, won £5,000 worth of FREE Dales Collection of composite doors. The giveaway entitled any customer who visited a Eurocell Building Plastics branch to enter by picking up a pack of playing cards. One lucky customer who found the Golden Joker card inside their pack was entitled to claim the £5,000 worth of free composite doors.* Business partners Jon Towey and Mick Thompson from Nexgen, based in Goldthorpe near Barnsley, said they were amazed when the pack of cards they were given at the Eurocell branch in Wakefield contained the winning Joker card. “We couldn’t believe it when we found the winning Joker card,” said Jon. “I was stunned when the branch manager said that it entitled us to £5,000 worth of free composite doors from The Dales Collection! We’re certainly going to be busy over the next few months installing them all.” Eurocell, part of the Tessenderlo Group, offered the giveaway to help raise awareness of The Dales Collection, which was re-launched earlier this year with better security, better sustainability and better aesthetics as well as a 25-year guarantee on new stainless steel door furniture. INTERNORM - MEETING THE GREEN AGENDA Internorm’s Passion Kanto triple-glazed windows have been instrumental in the recent refurbishment of Sandown Court in Avenham, Preston. The work has transformed two of the highest housing blocks in Preston into contemporary flats with high thermal performance; now energy bills could fall by as much as £1,200 per year. Many apartments were cold and damp, resulting in condensation and mould growth. The residents, many of who live in fuel poverty, had looked to the council for assistance in improving the buildings’ condition. But the financial implication had been a major barrier. Andrea Howe of Preston Council along with Norman Walsh of Firefly Energi were instrumental in taking this project forward. Through the Government’s Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP), funding was secured with Scottish and Southern (SSE) who contributed £3.8million. The remaining £200,000 was contributed by the residents via a loan through Lancashire Community Finance. Windows were an important part of the refurbishment. Existing windows were poorly fitted. Most were ‘E’ rated or worse, and very inefficient. Replacement was paramount and Internorm’s A-rated Passion Kanto, (now the KF200) was specified. A total of 1,500 windows were replaced throughout the 244 flats, over 18 floors. In classic design with a square edge, the new windows help transform the exterior of the towers. The UPVC/aluminium KF200 window can come triple-glazed with SOLAR+ as standard, a triple insulating glass that exceeds the requirements of Part L 2010. The glazing both actively promotes energy transmission of solar irradiation into the building (g value) as well as preventing energy loss through the window (U value). The thermal conductivity of SOLAR+ is 20% higher than with standard triple glazing. This means that solar energy gain is increased by 20% too. The windows also boast FIXO-ROUND technology, which is a continuous all around fixing of the glass pane to ensure better stability for higher life span, thermal and sound insulation, in addition to burglary protection and functioning security. For this project, the glass has a U value of 0.7W/m²K and the frame a U value of 1.1W/m²K. The surface finish of the windows is a powdercoated aluminium attachment cover in gun metal grey – key for aesthetics. www.internorm.co.uk. 24 FEB 2013 To read more, visit www.clearview-uk.com
