Fire Safety & Security FIREX 2017 – Facing the future » » WITH RECENT, TRAGIC events in all our minds, fire safety is very much to the fore; without a doubt, it is a crucial part of a successful business, economy and country. At FIREX International 2017 in June, professionals from every area of the industry came together to reflect on where this industry is and what its priorities should be. The fire industry united to discuss the latest pressing issues facing the industry, including the necessity in changing regulations following Grenfell Tower and London Fire Brigade highlighting the inadequate fire risk assessments discovered on a daily basis. Building regulations must be reassessed as part of the inquiry into the Grenfell tower fire, according to a panel of experts at FIREX International. In an emotional debate, which begun with a one-minute silence to commemorate the victims, Dennis Davis of the Fire Sector Federation (FSF) said the industry was ‘creating the legacy for the next 50 years’ following the Grenfell tower fire. The importance of certification across the industry became a common theme across the show, from the launch of the FIA’s new qualifications programme to demos by Exova Warringtonfire and Exova BM TRADA on the correct installation of fire doors. The Fire Industry Association (FIA) officially launched its new qualifications in fire detection and alarms at FIREX 2017. FIA general manager Martin Duggan (pictured) delivered three presentations about the new qualifications, one on each day of the three-day exhibition. The FIA said the new courses met with a positive response from attendees working in all areas of the supply chain, as well as interest from beyond the UK. “There are four new qualifications: designer, installer, maintainer, and commissioner,” explained Mr Duggan. “They are equivalent to a level 3 in the UK, so that is the same as an A-Level, but in Europe it is the same as a level 4 qualification on the European qualifications framework.” FREE DOWNLOAD: A Technical Guide to Fire Precautions and Fire Protection: https://www.ifsecglobal.com/ fire-news/ Radio controlled, wireless fire door system specified to the highest fire safety standards I N N O VAT O R S O F F I R E T E C H N O LO G Y 128 » S EP 2017 » CL EARVI E W- UK .
