Production ramped up
with factory expansion
» » POLYFRAME HAS
embarked on a major expansion
programme to increase the factory
space of its Norwich site by 50
per cent and ramp up production
rates by 55 per cent.
The new purpose-built
factory will increase Polyframe’s
production space on the site from
48,000 square feet to 72,000
square feet. Operational by the
end of October, the enlarged
factory will allow the Norwich
site to boost production output
from 4,500 frames a week to
7,000 frames a week on a 24-
hour shift basis.
The expansion is the biggest
landmark development at
Polyframe since it became part
of Customade Group earlier
this year and it will enable
the business to comfortably
maintain its position as the largest
fabricator of Rehau frames in the
UK.
150 people are currently
employed on the site and
the headcount is expected
to rise in line with increased
production. It is now the second
largest production site within
Customade Group after the
group’s 200,000 square foot
Polyframe Halifax site, which
fabricates Halo and Eurocell
frames.
The Norwich site will
manufacture the complete range
of Rehau PVCu windows and
doors, including the new smooth
grey on white chamfered profile.

» » BUSINESS MICROS HAS
proved once again that it is the
first-choice software provider
for the composite door sector,
with the supply of a completely
custom-built system for leading
composite door manufacturer
DOORCO.
DOORCO switched to
Business Micros mid-way
through 2016 because it wanted
a provider who could keep
pace with its dramatic growth,
and ensure that DOORCO
continues to deliver the
outstanding customer service
which has made it such a
favourite with fabricators and
installers.
The system has taken
Business Micros more than 12
months to build because it is
a bespoke software solution,
designed specifically to enable
DOORCO to deliver on its
primary objectives which were
to guarantee faster deliveries and
improved OTIF scores for its
distribution and manufacturing
customers, without sacrificing
product quality or consistency.
The software builds the
order for DOORCO, plans it
into production and then even
tracks it around the factory
using a series of Scanpoint
stations, giving the production
team a constant overview of
performance.
The first phase of the project
has been such a success that
Business Micros and DOORCO
are already moving on to phase
two which is to add despatch
planning.

PROVEN PASSIVHAUS STANDARDS FOR KOMMERLING
» » THE LAUNCH OF SYSTEM 76 BY
KÖMMERLING at the FIT Show earlier this
year, also extended to the development of a
range of Passivhaus solutions for windows,
residential doors and large span lift and slide
doors, as the company looks to redefine
standards of PVCu profile performance.
There are also many new hybrid designs
from KÖMMERLING which bring together
the architectural appeal of aluminium, with
the energy efficiency and cost effectiveness of
PVCu together.
As part of an expansive range of Passivhaus
solutions, a new inward opening residential
door has been added to the range of AluClip

Zero products, with a design that adopts
a unique floating panel, to cope with the
extremes in temperature across Europe.
Brian McDonald, commercial manager
of KÖMMERLING has been involved in
the introduction of these new Passivhaus
products, with the company eager to open
new opportunities with architects and building
specifiers. He commented: ‘Our range of
Passivhaus solutions are unsurpassed in such
a shallow frame depth, which is beneficial for
the installation process, building design and for
obvious commercial reasons. The proEnergyTec
technology is also fully recyclable unlike most
foam inserts, which further enhances our
sustainability credentials.
