The Company that Won’t Stay Still
When husband and wife team, John and Lynda Sewell set up Skyview Roofs nine
years ago, they never imagined how quickly the business would develop and how
within the first two years the company would have moved locally three times in
order to keep up with demand for its roofing, door and window products.
»»John talks to Cleaview’s
Editor and tells how the 12 month business
plan that they initially laid on the table,
was soon blown out of the water within the
company’s first five weeks of trading.
“To say I have no idea of where the last
nine years have gone is an understatement.
From the time we opened our doors offering
the Global roofing system, we saw sales
growth which meant we had to move to larger
premises not once, but twice within a two year
period.
“But this was hardly surprising, because not
only did we invest in new premises during
this time, but we were also bringing on new
products every year to help expand and
develop the company.”
New product development and introduction
is an ethos that John and Lynda have adopted
since starting the company and one which has
prove fruitful.
“We refuse to stand still, when it comes to
new products and this has given us the edge
on our competition,” adds John.
Skyview Roofs is one of leading profile
systems manufacturer, Sysneal’s top 20
customers in the UK. Based in Tyseley,
Birmingham they now employ 2 staff,

including three supervisors and four drivers
who deliver within a 150 mile radius in the
company’s own vehicles.
“We are now manufacturing in excess
of 40 to 50 roofing systems per month and
average up to 100 window frames. We have
also recently introduced our own paint shop
facilities, where we are able to turn round
products within 10 days, to any RAL colour
the customer requires.
“Obviously, because we have so many of our
manufacturing processes now in-house, should
customers require a faster return on any of our
products, we will always take a sympathetic
view on each project and help wherever we
can.” John adds.
‘allowing the perfect fit’
One of Skyview Roof’s core product lines is
Skyframe; a fully welded, lightweight aluminium
frame, specifically developed in-house at Skyview
Roofs for Orangeries. The special right angle
section is a more convenient and cost effective
way of allowing the perfect fit of the orangery
lantern roof, still enabling brickwork to be laid
directly around the construction without the aid
of lintels and RSJ’s.
“Our Skyframe system has proven to be
extremely popular with builders and installers.
Its lightweight structure means it is easily
transported and does not require a large amount
of manual labour to move it about on site.
“It can be easily positioned and on top
of the structure and fixed in place using
the Skyview fixing kit. Once secured, with
brickwork laid around the sections, then the
lantern roof can be laid with ease.
“All Skyframe structures are bespoke and all
we need is the external brick work size of the
structure to manufacture.
“Developing our roofing systems has
stood us in good stead in the market place,
but as I discussed previously, we don’t
like to stand still, and we have introduced
more components needed to complete a
conservatory or orangery; the introduction
of PVCu windows using Synseal Synergy and
Shield profile systems and more recently, the
introduction of the new Warmcore bi-folding
door system.” John concludes.
