A CONSERVATORY WITH A SOLID
ROOF WHAT A GREAT IDEA!
Phil Coppell has taken a simple concept and developed
a rock solid business plan around it.

PCL has been fabricating and
manufacturing the Guardian Roof for
over three years and from a standing
start they have steadily and relentlessly
increased their production output.
Over the last five years PCL has grown
to over 100 personnel, moved to larger
premises creating greater capacity and
subsequently a more sophisticated
production line. The massive in-house
warehousing means PCL can stock
enough materials to manage a
round-the-clock service which is very
capable of supporting the ever
increasing demand.
The Guardian™ solid roof has full LABC (in
England and Wales) and LABSS (in
Scotland) type approval which means you’ll
have no planning issues to deal with. No
other roof system can claim this very
important point and when you add the
impressive thermal values, an easy
installation procedure and a choice of
interior and external finishes, it’s easy to see
why the Guardian™ Roof is way ahead of its
rivals and really does give home owners an
extra room that they can enjoy all year round.
There’s no substitute for experience and PCL
has an excellent track record for fabricating
and manufacturing within the window and
conservatory industry but when the
opportunity to produce a lightweight solid
roof with all the advantages and benefits
came along – it wasn’t a matter of adding it
to their business strategy, it was more of a
chance for the solid conservatory roof
production to become a central element of
their long term plans.
Roofing at bury market
Recently PCL masterminded the restoration
of the roof of the Lapwing Lane Arcade in
Didsbury, East Manchester. This iconic
landmark which is the feature of the arcade
had been built in 1913. It is believed to be
the last surviving original Edwardian canopy
in Manchester and was in dire need of
restoration.
Grants were given by Manchester City
Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund
together with money raised by the locals.
This enabled PCL to showcase their excellent
workmanship and completely restore the
wired glass roof to its former glory.
PCL also manufacture and supply the roofs
for Bury Market via Northern Glass,
Whitefield. This is an ongoing project and
PCL’s experience and expertise overcomes
the challenges that the nature of this project
throws at them.
Two 18 ton trucks distribute to both trade
and domestic markets and PCL now have a
fleet of 46 vehicles traveling up and down the
length and breadth of the UK.
Recently, PCL installed a new spray paint
plant so that they can create their own
in-house colouring for both roofs and frames.
An alternative system is the Wendland Roof a
polycarbonate and glass roof that PCL
manufacture and supply.
Recent appointments include,
Steve Stanton – National Installations and
Customer Care Manager;
Thomasz Ostrowski – Production Manager,
and Karen Ackerley – Marketing Manager.
