HARDWARE& SECURITY Tried and Tested »»Over the last five years, the team at Debar Limited have been quietly creating a vision. This vision entailed Debar creating a European designed timber bifolding hardware system which surpasses the likes of its competitors as the system is a true inline system based on similar bespoke designs in Aluminium and PVCu. With the support of the Debar technical development team, Graham Fawthrop, managing director spearheaded the campaign and has driven the project forward, creating a bi-folding door system which is bespoke and offers step-by-step instructions of how to build a complete timber bi-folding door system from scratch. Currently, on most UK timber doors the hardware used is designed to fit flat surfaces and the fabricator has to work out details of how to make the bi-fold door. This usually involves head and cill details having to be wider than the sash profiles. With DeWall a manufacturer can not only benefit from completing the unit from a full range of tried and tested bi-folding hardware components, but Debar also supplies a complete set of design instructions, including; cad drawings, dimensions, routing and draining instructions, along with offering full technical support. Graham explains fu rther: “The benefits are massive to the bi-fold door manufacturer; a timber door construction in particular takes highly skilled workmanship to produce, so employing the DeWall design system allows a carpenter or joiner to build a flawless bifolding door by utilising the comprehensive tools and support we provide. “Also as specialist producers of bi-folding door hardware, we can provide a complete selection of components bespoke in design for the manufacturers requirements. Whether working with the DeWall timber or aluminium bi-fold door system, our hardware is designed to compliment and work fluently together.” Graham adds. Most importantly the system is above ground bottom running using low threshold tracks which slide the system effortlessly from open to closed position. The door system also utilises the company’s concealed locking shootbolts on the intermediate doors, operated 82 » M AY 2015 » CL EARVI E W- UK . The maximum number of panels are 14 with a maximum panel weight of 120KG “The hardware components are designed to work with the bespoke system to give maximum carry capacity to carry oversized doors with minimum profile.” Graham clarifies, “All of our bi-folding handles, lever/ lever handles and magnetic door holder are suited in colour to ensure an aesthetically pleasing design. The system has under gone extensive cycle and weather testing at BMTrada. The system was cycle tested in excess of 19,000 times on a full size door loaded to the maximum 120kg per panel. With the headache of producing a timber system from scratch, it makes sense to choose a purpose designed door system not just a hardware system with shaped profiles as an afterthought.
