Security in the spotlight
»»Sapa Building System, one of
the the world’s leading producers of
aluminium profile systems, is putting safety
first as its new Crown Sliding Folding Door
range has achieved PAS 024, the recognised
security standard for windows and doors.
In essence, if a door has been accredited
PAS 024 it has withstood a series of tests
designed to satisfy on basic security methods.
PAS 024 gives customers in the UK
confidence in the security capability of the
Crown Sliding Folding Door making it a door
of choice for the buyer.
To be honoured with this accreditation,
rigorous static loading and impact tests
were carried out on each area of the door.
Customers can rest assured that the patented
continuous hinge, the multipoint lock,
unique shootbolt handle and the top and
bottom roller guides all passed, ensuring the
door meets the highest security standards.
The innovative continuous hinge keeps the
sleek exterior look of the door as there are
no bulky or unsightly hinges to disturb the
contemporary aesthetic.
“The Crown Sliding Folding Door has
many security features. The minimalist ‘D’
handle throws the shootbolts into position
with an easy action and is key lockable for
added security, while the multipoint lock
allows the door to be used as a main entry
or exit,” said Jon Palethorpe, Commercial
Director at Sapa Building System.
Whereas some doors of this type would
use window hardware, the multipoint lock
is specifically designed for doors and can be
opened from the inside and outside offering

more variety for prospective buyers. The
minimalist handle also provides an indicator
to show that the shootbolts are in place. These
two security features, when coupled with
the inherent strength of aluminium, ensure
the Crown Sliding Folding Door offers a
truly secure option for the safety conscious
homeowner.
“There are also substantial aesthetic benefits
which make the door a stunning addition
to the Crown range,” continued Jon. “The
unique hinge solution creates a much more
streamlined finish than you would usually
associate with this type of door, giving much
slimmer sight lines and an optional low
threshold cill provides easy access. Easy glide
stainless steel wheels run on stainless steel
tracks which are completely hidden when the
door is closed.”
Choice for the customer
The door is as multifunctional as it is safe,
available in two to seven pane options and
can accommodate sizes up to three metres in
height. It is class leading in terms of thermal
performance and can achieve a U-value
of 1.4 W/m²k, thanks to its multi cavity
polyamide outer frame which ensures quiet
ope ration. When combining these features
with the door’s 75mm vent profile that
provides increased strength and resistance, it
gives buyers peace of mind that the technical
performance of the doors is not hindered.
Versatile in style, there are a number of
different colour options available for the inside
and out. This gives building owners the choice
to make a bold statement on the outside and
they are able to experiment with colours, while
keeping things more neutral on the inside and
co-ordinating with the interior. The Crown
Sliding Folding Door is now also available
with a realistic Light Oak Decoral wood grain
finish, which is resistant to UV radiation
and otherwise comparable with our standard
powder coatings.
Whatever the chosen finish, it is a high
performance, non-fading, hard and durable
coating that is baked onto the frame while
the door only needs an occasional wipe down
to ensure it stays looking as good as new.
This finish to the door frames demand low
maintenance, perfect for the busy building
owner. The aluminium construction will also
not deteriorate or warp over time, offering
greater reliability and durability.
Overall, the Crown Sliding door offers
added peace of mind in terms of security
and durability. With its innovative design,
colour and pane options, Sapa’s latest offering
provides abundant choice.
