MACHINERY NEW PVCU MACHINERY OFFER FOR THE UK MARKET With a long history, rich in the manufacture and export of glass insulating machinery, Bassra Machine Tools Ltd is about to embark on a venture that couples the Company’s expertise with that of Turkish PVCu processing machinery manufacturer, Kaban, to deliver a whole new proposition to the UK market. »»IN THE 33 YEARS SINCE IT BEGAN, Bassra Machine Tool Ltd has exported glass processing machinery globally to 33 countries, including the UK. Manufactured in the 50,000 sqft factory in Birmingham it has occupied for the past 15 years, the Company employs 28 staff, specialising in new and reconditioned machinery for the production of double and triple glazed units, including insulating, cutting, washing and processing machines, as well as some machines used in the tempering process. Head of Sales and Marketing, C J Kohli, explains: “Rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach, Bassra’s forte is in the design of customised machinery solutions, taking a standard machine and adding bespoke elements to suit individual requirements, such as speed, size and capacity.” Whereas much of Bassra’s work in the UK involves replacing and recommissioning an existing plant, further afield, in developing countries, the Company is brought on board from the off and acts as a consultant, working alongside the main contractor to ensure drainage and electricity points are exactly where they need to be, even training operatives and facilitating setup of the machinery. Here in the UK, the challenges are different but all markets benefit from Bassra’s big USP of making machinery that is simple to use and easy and economical to maintain, using ‘off the shelf ’ standardised parts. Thanks to its global customer-base, Bassra was relatively unaffected by the UK recession but, to keep a strong presence at a time when few were looking to purchase new machinery, Bassra was able to offer reconditioned machinery to its struggling UK customers. “Now, Bassra has teamed up with Kaban in Turkey, to offer PVCu processing machines to the UK market. Kaban is already wellestablished across the world and the two companies have be known to each other for nearly 15 years. In just 6 months we have already secured many UK customers and feedback so far has been good,” CJ concludes.
