Double the protection

»»
DIAMON-FUSION INTERNATIONAL ( DFI ) have recently announced that international fabricator , Templa JIB S . L . Toledo , Crystal Glass and Tempering , will add the value-added benefit of DFI ’ s flagship coating to both sides of the New FuseCube™ FLEX .
‘ double the protection at half the cost while eliminating application labour costs ’
The machine will allow Templa J . I . B . to consistently coat every piece of glass ( DOUBLE-SIDED ) at less than half the single-sided cost through a patented vapour system . And because any type of glass can be loaded in the FuseCube , Templa J . I . B . will also be able to apply double the protection to all their high-end , specialized glass products .
Managing Director , Jacob Martin Gomez- Tavira said , “ As the functionality and capabilities of glass have evolved over the past few years , so has the demand for a highquality glass protectant . By integrating the FuseCube ’ s automatic capabilities into our
production process , not only are we getting double the protection at half the cost while eliminating application labour costs , but we ’ re getting it with the highest quality Diamon- Fusion coating . It truly is a win-win scenario . And because the chemical gets vaporized throughout the chamber , we can say with complete confidence that our glass will be offered with the same consistent quality , every time ”.

THE BURNING ISSUE

Fire regulations need to be overhauled if the UK is to save some of the £ 3.5billion fire damage costs British businesses every year , according to a new report published by Pilkington United Kingdom Limited .
»»
THE REPORT , WHICH looks at the latest developments in fire-resistant glazing and its role in creating a built environment that effectively protects people and property , raises questions specifically relating to Approved Document B ( AD B ).
It asks if the document , which details the fire-safety requirements of UK building regulations , is up-to-date in terms of protecting not just occupants of buildings but also their structure and contents .
Speaking in ‘ The burning issue : is fire-resistant glazing up to the challenge ?’ Steve Rice , director of technical affairs at the Glass and Glazing Federation , says : ““ The number of recorded fires has fallen , but the average losses per fire have risen and evidence indicates

that as a result there has been little significant reduction in the overall cost to the economy .
“ There is now recognition of the need for improvement in AD B . That is , to bring it more in step with current practice in building design , construction and product supply .”

Bi-folds get the Smartglass Treatment

»»
THE SMARTGLASS ® brand from Clayton Glass is synonymous with cutting edge performance of glass in conservatories and now the same technology has been brought to the bi-folding and patio door markets , with SMARTGLASS ® -W.
Typically , the glass used in ‘ A ’ rated and above windows is designed with an element of solar heat gain within the calculations . This is all well and good in typical domestic properties for replacement windows , but where there are large areas of glass , this is the exact opposite of what is required from a technical standpoint , when there is on average 5m2 of glass in a typical bi-folding door that is 2100mm high x 3000mm wide , assuming 80 % glass coverage .
The cost differential between the entry level SMARTGLASS ® -W and the typical glass used in ‘ A ’ rated windows is marginal , yet the performance differential is considerable . Jason McCabe , commercial and site director of Clayton Glass commented : ‘ Our SMARTGLASS ® -W product fully reflects our vision as a glass innovator and pioneer . Technically better performing glass for bi-folding and patio doors is great for the sector , with the obvious sell on opportunities for installation businesses eager to capitalise on a sales hook .’
