INDUSTRYNEWS A Focused Approach »»In a recent interview David Thornton, head of the award winning installer The Window Company (Contracts) Ltd, told readers how ‘at least half a dozen’ of his company’s new suppliers were found by visiting The FIT Show in June 2014. “Before we attended we researched The FIT Show and prepared meticulously and as a result have met the new suppliers,” said David. In the editorial, in which David discussed how he and one of his company’s primary suppliers Glazerite came together after meeting at last year’s FIT Show, he discusses the importance of the preparation he and his team make before visiting: “When we visit the next FIT Show in April we will take along a pre-prepared synopsis so that exhibitors that we approach have more information from the outset.” David added: “In addition to researching the event beforehand usually I go up a day earlier and make a list of who we want to see and then we go round the event as a team and follow up with who we want to see. We want to see and be seen, to be in at the beginning of any new products and trends. When the team comes up and they have been round the show, we then meet to compare notes to make sure we haven’t missed anything.” David also offered advice to exhibitors: “I like controlled enthusiasm,” says David. “I don’t want to be attacked but neither can I stand the sight of people sitting down on a stand. The Yorkshire-based fabricator went back to rescue the project, working directly for the Care UK group to finish the last few items. This enabled the new-build Abney Court care home in Cheadle to be completed allowing care home residents to move in as planned, on time. C O M of the client should bode well for future projects as a spokesperson for Care Group UK explained: “Jade were as helpful as we could have wished for and we were able to open the home on time for residents who would have otherwise felt so left down and disrupted.” The anthracite on white casement windows in the Spectus Elite 70mm bevelled PVCu system were as specified by the client but, as Jade’s Ryan Fozard said, they were able to advise on the use of special restrictors as well as the design of the oriel bays. He added that they also cut costs for the client by advising on more extensive use of the PVCu system: “Originally, quite a few of the windows were going to be aluminium, and more expensive. We had a meeting with the main contractor and were able to offer a cost saving by turning to PVCu for many of them.” He added that the anthracite on white Elite is now a stock item from Spectus, because of its growing popularity, which also made the project much easier to manage. www.spectus.co.uk
