PROUD SPONSOR OF DOORS & WINDOWS DOORS&WINDOWS Handsworth jewellers take a shine to door company » » WHEN IT COMES TO BUSINESSES seeking positive feedback from customers, Warriors Doors, a Secured by Design member company that specialises in manufacturing secure entrance door sets, has achieved a real ‘gem’ of an accolade. Out of the 12 jewellery shops in Soho Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, close to the City’s landmark Jewellery Quarter, Warrior Doors has supplied and installed its bespoke doors to nine of them. It’s no wonder that Warrior Doors, a Birmingham-based company, is receiving commissions both on its doorstep and from high value jewellers, banks and bullion dealers when its doors have withstood attacks by sledgehammers, axes, battering rams and ram raids by vehicles. The company’s goal is to maximise security without compromising on light or visual aesthetics providing a unique range of high- specification security doors that have surpassed the most rigorous security testing to achieve certification to LPS1175 Security Levels 2, 3, 4 (version 7). Even Warrior Doors’ SR2 standard composite glazed doors have withstood vehicle ram raids and can block a 9mm round. Warrior Doors is the first company in the country to have achieved a fully glazed door to LPS1175 security level 4 (SR4) that can open either into or out from a building. Managing Director, Brett Barratt, said that spending on security is often underestimated and not considered as an investment in the business until the full impact of a robbery is experienced first-hand. “The real costs are to people involved who can be traumatised by the event for months, if not longer,” he said. Loss of high-value stock, whether it’s cash, diamonds, gold and watches can have a huge impact on the business continuity and in some cases the business never actually recovers, forced eventually to close down. Brett explained: “Warrior Doors has been able to provide some of the highest quality security doors available without compromising on the exacting demands of jewellers towards aesthetic appearance and maximum vision into their shops. “We have worked with a range of high value retailers including jewellers and bullion dealers, helping them to feel the benefits of being protected by a high security door from Warrior Doors.” www.warriordoors.co.uk New Guidelines for Composite Fire Door Sales » » SALES OF COMPOSITE FIRE DOORS were suspended following the issue of a press statement by the MHCLG that named a number of manufacturers whose products had failed to comply with Building Regulations after testing was carried out as part of the Grenfell Tower investigations. Following early discussions with the Government, the ACDM and its members took the decision to suspend sales unilaterally until evidence could be shown that manufacturers and suppliers of such products were testing in full compliance with the Building Regulations, in addition to a number of other criteria. Now, following three months of intensive discussions between the Association of Composite Door Manufacturers (ACDM) and Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG) to resolve the industry’s self-imposed moratorium on composite fire door sales, an agreement has been reached to allow sales to resume. New guidelines state that fire door set manufacturers must have primary test evidence illustrating that products have passed 46 » F EB 2019 » CL EARVI E W- UK . C O M the required fire tests from both sides, with written confirmation from the test house confirming this result. Additionally, a director from the manufacturer of the doors should write a confirmation to the supplier of the door blank, enclosing successful bi-directional test evidence confirming that the door sets they intend to manufacture and supply will use, without exception, only the components within the door sets tested. Continued supply of door blanks will continue only when such evidence has been provided. Andrew Fowlds, Chair of the ACDM, says that the discussions have been lengthy, detailed and challenging but with a positive outcome: “The cost to the composite door industry during this period has been very heavy, with a number of casualties in terms of jobs and revenue. However, as long as all manufacturers of such products have completed bi-lateral testing in strict accordance with the Building Regulations, and provided the necessary written confirmation to their supplier, then supply may resume. This is essential to prevent further damage to an industry that is already severely weakened and suffering job losses, but which has reacted positively and responsibly by voluntarily withdrawing from the market until this resolution could be found.” www.acdm.co.uk
