Creating the Ideal Installer Prospect
»»Manchester based, Absolute
Windows manufacture the Supalite roofing
system, under the company’s branded name
‘roof2roof ’ and the impact the system has had
on the business and sales has been somewhat
of a phenomenon.
James Dance, managing director tells
how he considers solid roofing systems a
breakthrough for the industry and how
installers should take advantage of the roof
system to open up more sales opportunities.
Absolute Windows are based on a busy and
very popular main route leading into the heart
of Manchester, just off the M60. The business
has taken advantage of the passing traffic
and built several life size conservatories and
orangery structures on the site to help attract
the attention of domestic and trade enquiries.
This method has proved extremely successfully
over years and has allowed James and his team
the opportunity to become creative in their
offering. With the launch of its conservatory roof
system in 2012, the business was able to show its
conservatory structures on the side of the factory
and the tiled roof system.
James explains: “When
w e introduced Supalite
conservatory tiled roofing
system to our range we wanted to
have a means of showing the system
in a live situation, and now three years on we
can actually show customers how the system is
performing.”
The Supalite roofing system offers a
certified, safe and energy efficient solution
for existing and new conservatories. With no
limitations on the style options available, the
system can achieve up to a U-value of 0.18W/
m2K. Its lightweight aluminium
system confidently fits on to the
conservatory structure providing
a strong and energy effective base
to overlay the roofing tiles.
The system holds a multitude
of unique selling points, ranging
from; a selection of highlydurable roofing tile styles and
colours, an option of internal
ceiling finishes and sky lights
with central pivoting to allow
strategic positioning whilst in
an open position.
James continues: “Fitting
our Supalite roof system offers
installers an opportunity to revisit
older conservatories, in my opinion this is a
ready-made sales prospect for installers, and
with our support marketing the system to the
homeowner with the confidence they will be
offering a solution for an all-year round living
area.”

LABSS Approval for
Celsius Solid Roof
The recently-introduced Celsius Solid Roof system from
Synseal is now fully approved and registered by the
LABSS (Local Authority Building Standards Scotland)
as checked for compliance with Scottish Building
Regulations under certificate number EWS550.
»»Construction of a completely
new solid roof or replacement of an existing
conservatory roof with a retrofit solid roof
involves a statutory obligation to submit a
Building Regulations application. The scope of
Synseal’s updated certificate number EWS550
now covers England, Wales and Scotland to
facilitate mandatory legal technical compliance
procedures for site locations in all three
countries.
The thermal performance specification
to meet Scottish Building Regulations is
more demanding and the required U-value

of 0.15W/m2K (calculated to BS EN ISO
6946:2007) is achieved by supplementing
Celsius Solid Roof ’s standard Envirotile,
breathable membrane and 142mm Kingspan
TEK structural insulated panel roof assembly
with a Kooltherm K18 insulated dry lining
plasterboard internal finish to provide an
additional non-bridged layer which is 42.5mm
overall in element thickness.
“The market opportunity for retrofitting existing tired old conservatories
is significant and our fast-fitting Celsius
Solid Roof has a traditional all-timber core
construction to provide a truly warm yet
relatively lightweight structure that will not
unduly stress existing conservatory window
walling structures and foundations,”
comments Synseal’s head of marketing,
Mark Schlotel. “Celsius Solid Roof has
been carefully designed to avoid excessive
loadings and weighs the equivalent of our
popular Global or K2 aluminium/PVCu
conservatory roofs glazed with toughened
roof glass.”
