GLASS WALL
‘SHOWCASE’ TO
BE INSTALLED
AT TELFORD
»»In a move to provide a live
showcase for its product, the US-based
manufacturer of electronically tintable
SageGlass® is introducing the product to the
UK at the Fabricator Installer Trade (FIT) Show
- by replacing an entire glass wall at the Telford
exhibition centre home of the event.
A total of 132 conventional glass units
with an area of 314 metres2 will be replaced
permanently with SageGlass® Lightzone™
in advance of the launch of the product.
The installation will allow the real-world
demonstration of SageGlass Lightzone, which
allows the creation of up to three variable tint
zones within a single pane of glass, throughout
the three days of the event on 12th, 13th and
14th April 2016 at The International Centre,
Telford.
When installed the glass will be
automatically controlled by four external light
sensors which detect predetermined light
levels at which the SageGlass will tint from the
clear state of 60% light transmission, in four
stages down to only 1% light transmission.
All cable and controls are integrated into the
system and are easily installed in the existing
curtain walling. Tinting and therefore light
levels may be also controlled through a special
SageGlass Mobile App.
SageGlass, a product of Saint-Gobain, the
leading producer of flat glass in Europe and
number two worldwide, chose the event and
the decision to install its product ahead of
the show due to the concentration of glazing
industry professionals that will be attending
The FIT Show.
In addition, the company’s partner on the
UK conservatory market, County Durhambased Clayton Glass, will be featuring
SageGlass on its stand at the event.
It was reported at the end of last year that
Clayton Glass had signed an exclusive deal to
bring the revolutionary switchable SageGlass
to the UK residential market, which will
be marketed as SMARTGLASS® Dynamic
powered by SageGlass, on the back of its
successful conservatory glass brand.
SageGlass is a dynamic electrochromic,
tintable glass which is perfect for conservat ory
and lantern roofs, along with bi-folding and
large patio doors and of course, windows. This
new genre of glass has been hugely popular in
the USA and this exclusive deal will help open
up the UK market for switchable glass, at a
price that is now commercially viable.
The launch of SMARTGLASS® Dynamic
will enable homeowners to control sunlight
without shades or blinds, so they can manage
glare and heat while maintaining a connection
to the world outdoors, all from the use of
a Smartphone app, available for iOS and
Android devices. One of the most interesting
applications will be for bi-folding doors where
solar heat gain and glare are particular issues
and the product launch will see the latest
generation roof lights adopting the product
through key partners.
Glass that changes tint to control
sunlight and heat is a simple concept, but a
sophisticated engineering challenge according
to SageGlass, which is the result of more than
two decades of pioneering research in dynamic
glass and is protected by more than 300 US
and worldwide patents.
