Maintaining
top performing
windows
»»The chances are
that windows fitted more than
three years ago won’t have the
energy performance they did
when they were first installed. But
these aren’t windows that need
replacing and until now, there was
nothing installation companies
could offer customers to help.
Now Edgetech UK, one of the
leading voices for energy efficient
glazing, has launched Renovate by
TruShield® to bring old windows
back to life.
Renovate is a glass cleaning
system combined with a
protective layer of TruShield glass
protection. It comes in a handy
pack that contains everything
needed to treat four standard
domestic windows that includes
cloths and protective gloves. It’s
a clever two-step process. The
specially developed pre-cleaner
removes dirt build-up before
TruShield is applied to protect
the glass. The protective effect is
activated immediately with the
surface becoming hydrophobic.
“The rationale behind
Renovate is simple,” says
Charlotte Davies, Marketing
Manager at Edgetech. “With
91% of windows in the UK
already replaced we could
see a need for protecting the
performance of those windows.
Dirt on the glass can reduce the
energy efficiency of windows
and Renovate is designed to
preserve the performance of the
glazing.
“We have put together a
complete package of marketing
materials for installation
companies to offer Renovate to
their window customers,” adds
Charlotte. “With DVDs, drop
cards, mailers and homeowner
leaflets Edgetech has made it
easy for customers to generate
leads with the launch of
Renovate by TruShield.
“It gives installation companies
a reason to go back to their
existing customers and offer
them the very latest technology
in maintaining the energy
performance of their windows.
And while Renovate is designed
as a retrofit product, there’s no
reason why companies can’t
offer it at the time of new
installations.”

»»The City of London
Corporation looks after the
fire safety of 900 properties,
including the Mansion House,
the home and office of the Lord
Mayor of London.
Built in 1739, the Mansion
has a warm and inviting feel,
with unique large gold leaf
doors which lead into the
dining room. It’s estimated that
50,000 people visit the Mansion
House every year.
Terence Short is Fire Safety
Advisor for the City of London
Corporation. Terence found
that the current fire precautions
at the Mansion House, while
effective in keeping the fire
doors closed, wasn’t practical for
accessibility.
Terence said “We needed the
fire doors closed so they can
compartmentalise in case of a
fire. However, there is a lot of
staff at the Mansion House,
with catering staff often setting
up the dining and banquet
rooms. We installed spring
closers, but we found that it
wasn’t practical.”
Dorgard is a fire door
retainer, which holds fire doors
open in any angle and releases
the door to close when the
alarm sounds. The Dorgards
stabilised the great length and
weight of the doors, so they are
safe and easy to keep open.
Terence commented on
the significant reduction of
risk to the premises: “We can
control the building a lot more
effectively. There is easy access
for staff as they can carry out
their duties without the need
to prop open doors, and the
property is fully compliant
as Dorgard reduces the risk
of fire spreading through the
building.”
“The technical department
was fantastic. They advised on
everything to the floor plates
so the door doesn’t slip. When
we test the alarms , the doors
close every time and it’s a
very easy device to install and
maintain. Fireco provides a great
service.”
