Investing in our future
»»SINCE HIS APPOINTMENT TWELVE
months ago as HR Director, Mark Knight
has been focusing his time and energy into
Cornwall Glass and Glazing’s succession
planning.
“As our collective workforce matures the
need for younger colleagues to join our
dynamic team becomes a real priority.”
Mark has formulated an exciting strategy
to address this prerequisite. “Drawing on
the expertise within the company we have
initiated training for two of our colleagues
to become Apprentice Assessors. Working in
conjunction with a local training provider they
will be qualified to asses various L2 and L3
apprentices.”
Mark’s introduction of an “Apprentice
Journey” is a new concept for the company
and it is hoped that this refreshing approach
will attract young people to join the glass
industry. It is an aspiration that apprentices
will make up 10% of the CGG’s strong
workforce which currently stands at
245, covering a variety of roles including
Fenestration, Production and Manufacturing
Operations, Finance, Business Administration
and Customer Services. With regular reviews
and interaction spanning the 2 to 2.5 year
process, the structure of the apprentice
journey will allow assessors and apprentices
to build strong relationships and they will
also receive regular reviews with the HR
Director. Standing out from other apprentice
providers CGG apprentices join the company
as full time permanent employees from day
one benefitting from the advantages of the
company employment package. Moving
forward CGG will be looking to offer level
4 apprenticeships throughout the company’s
current 15 branches covering the South
West.
Nurturing apprentices in the Cornwall
Glass Group is a tried and tested method.
Several years have passed since a young
inexperienced Mark Herbert entered the glass
industry as an apprentice. Learning his trade
and moving through various roles within
the glass business. In 2015 Mark became
Glazing and Installation Director for the
Cornwall Glass Group. Mark is testament that
investment in energetic, diverse and vibrant
individuals is worth its weight in glass!
NEW DESPATCH MANAGER
TARGETS EVEN BETTER
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Wayne Elkin is the new Despatch Manager at REHAU
trade fabricator, Euroglaze, promoted as part of the
company’s commitment to continuous improvement.
»»WITH 25 YEARS’ EXPERIENCE IN
the window industry, in a mix of sales,
installation, technical and delivery roles,
Wayne understands exactly how important
it is to get deliveries to customers on time
and in full, and is putting in place a series
of initiatives to help Euroglaze improve its
already excellent performance.
This includes the new online imaging
system, which records all ancillary packs
being filled and sealed before despatch so that
customers can be reassured that they have all
the right fittings for every job, and barcode
scanning of frames at despatch.
Wayne’s promotion comes as a result
of a complete systems review carried out
at Euroglaze, which looked at ways of
streamlining the operation to make every
department work even more efficiently for
customers and identified talented individuals
within the business who could implement the
changes required.
He said of his new role: “Euroglaze’s
delivery team always score highest in our
customer satisfaction surveys and I’m looking
to build on that with a more efficient service,
improved communication and even higher on
time in full delivery scores.”
Euroglaze is one of the UK’s leading
REHAU trade fabricators and currently
produces around 900 frames per week for
customers across the UK.
