Rise In Sectionals
Reported For 2014
»»This year, leading
industrial and domestic door
manufacturer Hörmann has
seen an increase in demand for
sectional garage doors.
Offering the best choice
for security, insulation and
appearance it is no wonder UK
homeowners are insisting on
these quality styles for integral
garage builds. Hörmann’s
sectionals are constructed of
42mm thick double-skinned
polyurethane panels with flexible
rubber, weather-resistant seals on
four sides, helping to keep the
elements out and contribute to a
notable U-value of only 1.4 W/
m2K for a fitted unit.
To improve insulation further,
the company has developed
ThermoFrame kits for a range
of double skinned steel sectional
garage doors. The frame is
constructed of a plastic profile
that fits between the brickwork
and doorframe to act as a thermal
break, which increases insulation
by up to 15 per cent.
There is also a wide choice
of finishes, including open-for-
infill options; where you can
effectively use a material and
finish of your choice, achieving a
top-end appearance to a project.
The latest advances in garage door
technology, side-sliding sectionals
offer even more features,
specifically for special fitting
situations
A recent project in Bury St
Edmunds, installed a Hörmann
HST sectional into a purposebuilt aircraft hangar. Mr Henry
Brewis built a 105sqm Tudor,
oak-framed cart lodge to house
his private four-seated Jabiru
aeroplane.
It naturally needed a garage
door that was wide enough
to fit such a vehicle, so Henry
approached Andy Simmonds
at Fore-Most Garage Doors,
Ipswich, with a brief for an
affordable, attractive garage door
to fit a 12m wide opening.
With the help of Hörmann’s
domestic engineer, and UK
resident expert, Alex MacKay,
a combination of two double
automated HST side-sliding
sectional doors were fitted. This

the world’s first handle
actuated, automatic wicket
door function – a simple
press of the handle or handset
will open the door to a selected
point.
As with any garage door fitting,
it is of utmost importance the
door openings and side walls
are correctly aligned for smooth
operation, and for the relevant
clearances to be left in the reveals
to enable the door to function
properly.
Since the proposed HST
needed to be so significant in
size, the boom tolerance, lintel
strength and load-bearing weight
had to be factored in, so the space
could provide ample support.
Another popular product
for Hörmann in 2014 has
been its innovative BiSecur
Gateway system, which has
been incorporated into many
garages across the country. For
the ultimate in security, the latest
generation of the manufacturer’s
operators and handheld
transmitters are featured in the
system; using the same 128bit
encryption as online banking.
Developed to feature bidirectional FM radio signals, the
transmitters can include a remote
status query, so the end user
knows if an out-of-sight door is
open or closed. Combined with
the new BiSecur Gateway mobile
app, homeowners can also enjoy
the convenience of being able to
check the
status, and control their garage
door by smartphone and tablet.
To complete the look, builders
and homeowners can specify
matching side doors using
the same panels as Hörmann’s
sectional garage doors; with
multi-point locking for additional
security. The new Double-Leaf
Hinged Door, benefits from
a robust design, with CFCfree rigid polyurethane foam
sandwiched between two steel
surfaces.
Bringing this traditional style
up-to-date, Hörmann offers the
range in small, medium and large
ribbed variants, with a wide range
of colours and finishes, including
the popular Decograin, and
new for this year - the textured
Sandgrain finish. Hörmann’s
RAL-to-choose option offer 15
preferred shades.
With regular and consistent
investment made into research
and development, 2014 has been
a successful year in launching new
products for Hörmann. Now its
door ranges are larger than ever,
customers can pick and choose
from all sorts of styles according
to their taste and budget.
