Meeting demand
for the future
»»Hardware
specialist Winkhaus has opened
a new production facility in the
northern area of the German
city of Münster, to meet the high
demands of a future-oriented
production of access control
systems.
The new location includes
10,000 sq. m dedicated to
manufacturing activities and
technology development, and
another 3 ,500 sq. m of office
space. With a total surface
of 30,000 sq. m, the facility is
twice the size of the former
production plant, situated in
the city centre, and has been
designed with layout and
material flow optimisation in
mind, significantly increasing
both the production capacity,
and efficiency.
Construction of the new
factory was completed in record
time, and has resulted in an 80%
increase of the production and
technology area, compared to
the old unit. Processes which
had previously been divided
over multiple levels, have now
been streamlined into a single
system.
Justin Harris, commercial
director at Winkhaus UK, added:
“The investment in a new
production facility in Germany
reflects our company’s focus on
the continuous development
of new, advanced products, as
well as in maintaining the high
levels of customer satisfaction
our clients have become
accustomed with, thanks
to short lead times and the
guarantee of unrivalled quality
for every single product we
supply.”
Alongside the Münster
factory, Winkhaus operates two
other manufacturing facilities in
Germany, at Telgte, where the
company focuses on window
technology, and Meiningen,
where security door locking
systems are being developed.

SMART
HANDLE
»»Mila has launched a
new ‘Smart Spindle’ espag handle
designed specifically for the
window repair market. It makes
easy work of replacing virtually
any PVCu window handle and
is suitable for use with all of the
most common PVCu profile
systems in the UK, past and
present.
The new Smart Spindle is
essentially five handles in one.
Based on Mila’s popular ProLinea
espag handle, it comes complete
with five different spindles as
standard in lengths from 9mm to
55mm.
The really ‘smart’ part is
the fact that the spindles are
completely interchangeable
and simply click-fit into place
as needed, depending on the
requirements of the window.
A clever new rosette in the
back of the handle allows positive
location of each spindle with an
audible click when the lever is
rotated through 90º and the click
fit feature ensures that only the
correct end of the spindle can ever
be inserted.
Mila’s Managing Director
Richard Gyde is enthusiastic
about the launch. He said:
“Replacing window handles used
to mean identifying the profile
system and choosing the correct
handle and spindle length every
time. In turn, this meant holding
lots of stock of different options
and potentially wasting time on
site if the right handle wasn’t
available.
“Now, thanks to Mila’s ‘Smart
Spindle’, one handle fits all so
it offers real savings on stock
holding and greater on site
efficiency because the right handle
is always to hand.”
The stylish ProLinea handle
element of Smart Spindle is
available in six colours including
polished gold, polished chrome,
white and black and comes
complete with an edge to edge
screw cover cap on the rose for a
contemporary look.
It is supplied with cut-off
screws as standard and in a
choice of locking, push button
and emergency exit versions. It
also meets the enhanced security
requirements of Secured by
Design and has been tested to
50,000 cycles under load.
