hese photographs of the model Glass Ol-

ive are now more than six months old, which—
given the amount of shooting I am currently
doing—seems like a lifetime ago. And yet they
remain among my favorite images.
They occurred thanks to the convergence of
a set of extremely fortunate conditions. Of
course, there was Olive herself, a gorgeous
and skilled model. And then there was her
cavernous Williamsburg loft with its endless
bank of north-facing windows, setting the
room aglow on that clear-skied February day.
Finally, our meeting occurred last in a concentrated series of shoots, four over the course of
a three-day visit to the city. By that morning,
I was exhausted from having overbooked myself, but also locked in something of a groove,
and I think it comes across here.
My photography has grown leaps and bounds
since these were taken, but there is nothing I
would change about them. ‡
