EQUIPMENT & MAINTENANCE Long Term Truckmount Maintenance Planning Can Save You Money! by Dennis Russell When you purchase a new piece of equipment or vehicle the long term maintenance is not something that is on your mind right away. If you don’t plan for it though it can sneak up on you and cause a disruption in your busy life. The best time to start a maintenance program is when you get a piece of equipment that is new to you, even if it is not new. This will give you a starting point of what has been done and when to a piece of equipment or vehicle that you rely on for your income, or count on to provide safe transportation for your family. To start a long term maintenance program you will need to have a chart or log to document what needs to be done and when. It will also become a reference of has been done and when if service records are ever needed. The information you will need to set up the log will be found in the owner’s manual of the piece of equipment or vehicle. I mention the vehicle because it is ignored for a lot of maintenance until there is a strange grinding noise as it comes to a stop. If you keep the log up to date, you can plan ahead for service work so it does not interfere with your work schedule. You can also group related service items together to help reduce the cost.
