TRUMP ’ S $ 1 TRILLION DOLLAR QUESTION Infrastructure , Infrastructure , Infrastructure !
As we have heard , Trump has mentioned multiple times his plans for new infrastructure reforms that will give money to States to upgrade the nation ’ s highways , roads , bridges , canals , etc . However , President Trump is running into a divided GOP trying to add up the costs and Democrats who might not support infrastructure reform is there are tax breaks and attempts to shred environmental permits . Transportation Elaine Chao continues to push for infrastructure reform stating that the President ’ s plan will include common-sense regulatory , administrative , organized policy changes to spur investment . However , as we have seen since President Trump took office , we do not know exactly what to expect . At one point President Trump has even has hinted at tying health care reform in with a massive infrastructure package in order to win Democratic support .
CLDA continues to partner with other allies in the transportation industry to join in on efforts to reduce burdensome regulations and to stay involved in the negotiations to modernize our nation ’ s infrastructure .

The CLDA Advocacy Fund is used to help advocate for the courier , logistics and delivery industry on Capitol Hill and within the multiple State Legislatures . For those of you that don ’ t know , donations from our members to the CLDA Advocacy Fund are allocated to projects and personnel that help protect the industry ( State and Federal ) and advance CLDA ’ s priorities . The CLDA Advocacy Fund allows us to have a seat at the table as federal lawmakers discuss the next tax reform package . It also helps us get involved in the states to get important protections and provisions passed into state and local law .
Recently , CLDA sent out informational brochures to our new and current members educating them on the advocacy fund and giving them an easy way to sign up to donate monthly or be a one-time donor . We need our non-donating members to GO GO GO and get out of the donor class , get on board to protect the industry ’ s interest , and join this great opportunity to engage with the new Administration and Congress .
In late March , the Department of Transportation ’ s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration ( FMCSA ) withdrew its Notice of Proposed Rulemaking which proposed a revised methodology for the issuance of Safety Fitness Determination ( SFD ) for motor carriers . This premature rulemaking has finally been defeated and this is a positive sign that the Trump Administration is supportive of reforming the Compliance , Safety and Accountability ( CSA ) program in the Fixing America ’ s Surface Transportation ( FAST ) Act .
