Hanoi Summit Gangster like Approach would not work The two days Hanoi Summit of US President Donald Trump and the North Korean President Kim Jong-un held on 27-28 February of 2019 ended abruptly and without a deal. Two sides gave their own versions of what happened in the Summit. The North Korean side said: “We agreed to dismantle the plutonium, uranium enrichment facilities at Yongbyon site….and demanded the lifting of sanctions imposed on North Korea since 2016. Trump rejected it and demanded substantial steps towards denuclearization.” Donald Trump said: “They wanted the sanctions lifted in entirety and we cannot do it.” We know US and North Korea began their negotiation process in June 2018 after going through a long period of hostility, tension and war-like situation. This Summit had called for a “denuclearization of Korean peninsula.” However, the leaders of both Countries had different perspectives of this call. For US, it was a call to North Korea alone. It means the North Korea must destroy its nuclear weapons and nuclear facilities and assure the US to the best of its satisfaction such weapons no more would be produced by the North Korea in future. But, in the view of North Korea, the call applies to US too and US too has a responsibility to keep the Korean peninsula free from Nuclear weapons and nuclear threats. These divergent perspectives had reflected in the steps to carry out the spirit of the first summit. US had initiated no move to normalize the situation and develop an atmosphere of mutual confidence between the two Countries. The 14 war-like situation imposed by the US in Korean peninsula in 1953 still continues. 28000 US armed forces continue to station in South Korea. The US officials had exhibited enough of high- handedness in their drive to denuclearize the North Korea. Even the Hanoi Summit encou- ntered many obstacles. So, no miraculous results were expected from the Hanoi Summit. The US approach towards negations with North Korea has two aspects: 1. In a tweet, Trump sought to impress that “with complete denuclearization, North Korea will rapidly become an Economic Powerhouse.” North Korea would thrive, and very quickly, if it would denuclearize.” “The potential is AWESOME, a great opportunity like almost none others in history, for my friend Kim Jong-un.” 2. I don’t want to rush anybody. I just don’t want testing. As long as there is no testing, we are happy.” So, the long term objective of US is to transform North Korea into a satellite Country which remains totally dependent on the imperia- lists economically, politically and militarily. Its promises of turning North Korea into a heaven on earth or an Economic Powerhouse can have no meaning other than ™ this. J The letter, when said “the way held demonstrations on February 20 demanding review of preca- rious status of contract teachers. Several thousands of municipal employees struck work for 24 hours protesting dangerous working conditions. In Tunisia, secondary school teachers have been on strike since October 2018 demanding their integration into civil service. The teachers of primary schools are demanding the same and protesting deteriorated working conditions. Fearing the mass upheaval of workers, the esta- blishment trade unions cancelled a general strike call scheduled to February 8 th . The sregimes in Nigeria and Sudan are also facing the same protest demonstrations from various sections of the people. It is the need of the hour that the people has to raise their political struggle against the present regimes with the perspective of building a socialist society. ™ 18-3-2019 to generalised peace, quiet and public security”, has implicit threats that the strikes and demonstrations will be met with fierce repression. Yet the demonstrations continued reflecting the repudiation of the regime’s announcement of a supposed political transition that in fact preserving both the regime and its figurehead. Protesters chanted slogans or held up signs saying “We wanted elections without Bouteflika now we have Bouteflika without elections”, “They tried to bury us, they didn’t know we were seeds.” Some slogans also directly addressed French President Emmanuel Macron, who has supported Bouteflika, saying “Take care of the yellow vests, Macron, that’s enough for you” or “Get the wood ready, Macron, there will be no Algerian gas for you this year”. Similar waves of strikes and demonstrations are going on in the other North African countries. In Morocco, thousands of teachers Class Struggle
