Chuck Kuhn Interview
“ Growing up in Brooklyn in the late 1970s and early 1980s , basketball was everything . We played every day and followed the NBA and its star players . I first came across these great Nike posters while shopping for sneakers with my mom . The stores would have them on the walls , and I was attracted to the themes and Nike sneakers the players wore because they typically weren ’ t sold in stores .
The first poster that I bought was World B . Free , because he was from Brownsville , Brooklyn like me and I knew him . Then I purchased what in my opinion is the greatest of all of these posters - George “ The Iceman ” Gervin . The Iceman is sitting on blocks of ice with the grey & black sweatsuit . The imagery of that , combined with his effortless style of play , was perfect .
These were great posters from my childhood , and there was a time when I had four of them on my wall . They really helped put Nike on top for me .”
