S. history and government, along with citizens’ rights and responsibilities, and how to apply for citizenship and preparing for the exam. This ten-month program provides a foundation for students interested in a career in the culinary arts. Classes are a balance of theoretical instruction and hands on practice in the School’s teaching kitchen. Key principles include: sanitation and safety, knife skills, food preparation, and more. Our course prepares students to take the ServSafe® certification exam. Requirements: - Eligible for ESL 3 or higher (unless student already applied to take the citizenship exam) - Advising session Requirements: - Eligible for ESL 6 or higher - Advising session with the Culinary Arts Academy Director or designee Location: Harvard Street Campus International Cuisines Location: Sonia Gutierrez Campus ServSafe® in Spanish Location: Harvard Street Campus The five-month program offers various gastronomic historical perspectives and influential contributions of different cultures with their corresponding cooking techniques, flavor affinities, profiles, and local taste. Our hands-on class focuses on menu develop- ment, food preparation, and more. This two-month certification program is for individuals with experience working in commercial kitchens: restaurants, hotels, or catering services. This certification class helps students obtain a food handling manager’s credential with the DC Department of Health that complies with local food safety and health regulations. Requirements: - Eligible for ESL 6 or higher - Successful completion of Fundamentals class or its equivalent - Advising session with the Culinary Arts Academy Director or designee Requirements: - Spanish reading level of 5th grade or higher - SUPERA test score of 4.6 or higher Baking and Pastry Location: Sonia Gutierrez Campus Our five-month program provides a foundation for students interested in a career in the baking industry.
