Out & About
Almost everything in London is within easy reach. It is not hard to get to
grips with the buses and the underground system and wherever you go you
will always be within a short walk of something interesting. Give the buses a
go - climb on to the top deck and head for the front seats!
The National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery are within a short walk;
both are fee and offer hours of interest. The Courtauld Gallery is small but
perfect, a gem. It is to be found in Somerset House, an important arts and
cultural centre. In winter the courtyard is turned into an ice skating rink!
A stroll through Trafalgar Square and down The Mall will take you to
Buckingham Palace and perhaps the Changing of the Guard ceremony,
colourful pageantry which the Brits do so well! The Queen’s Gallery and
The Royal Mews, both at Buckingham Palace, are open to the public. Horse
Guards Parade is in Whitehall, and further along is Downing Street, the
official home of the Prime Minister.
