Out & About
Having traipsed around the RA you will be in need of sustenance and if you
are going to ‘take’ afternoon tea in London it has to be done at The Ritz;
it is an institution in itself and just across the street from the gallery. Served
in the spectacular Palm Court, they offer a selection of 17 different types
of loose leaf tea and a traditional English Tea Menu which includes freshly
cut sandwiches, freshly baked scones with strawberry preserve and clotted
Cornish cream, followed by a delectable selection of afternoon tea cakes

and pastries. (Make sure you are ‘well turned out’ as they refuse trainers
and casual dress.)
Tucked in between Shaftesbury Avenue and Leicester Square is London’s
famous China Town. At its heart is Gerrard Street which has tall red Chinese
Gates at its entrance. If you are looking for the best Chinese and Asian
food in London, this is the place to come. Though there is so much more to
China town than the restaurants. This vibrant community has brought with
it the tastes and charm from the orient. There is fabulous Chinese super
market, shops selling Chinese medicines and herbal remedies, as well as
acupuncturists and homoeopathists. There are often festivals happening
throughout the year, as well the famous Chinese New Year celebrations
