What is happening in ClairCity ?

Crucially , citizens from each location will lead the process through a wide range of public engagement tools , making sure the final policy package reflects the aspirations of local people . This citizen involvement will improve the policy proposals , and also create more public awareness of air pollution and carbon emissions .
How will citizens get involved in ClairCity ?
Where is ClairCity happening ? ClairCity involves organisations from ten countries across Europe ( see back page ), but our activities with the public are focused in six partner cities and regions :
- Amsterdam , Netherlands - Aveiro region , Portugal - Bristol , UK - Genoa / Liguria region , Italy - Ljubljana , Slovenia - Sosnowiec , Poland
Our partners were selected because they represent a diverse range of experiences , expertise , issues and solutions . Each location is different , with a unique set of challenges and the potential to offer solutions . Other cities , regions and organisations around the world can join ClairCity as Associates to learn more from our experiences . Find out more at www . claircity . eu / about / claircity-associates /
Residents in each partner city and region will get involved through an online game , app , events , a schools ’ competition , questionnaires , social media and local face-to-face workshops . The range of activities is designed to target different groups within the population , so that young people , elderly residents , families , professionals and others can all access the project in ways that work for them .
The activities are planned in each location from 2017-2019 . Each step of the project is informed by citizen views on the future for their city , their priorities and concerns . Local opinions and opportunities will also be represented by stakeholder organisations and the local authorities , who are partners on the project .
What is ClairCity doing ?
ClairCity brings together detailed information about air pollution in each city or region , and how daily life in the area causes air pollution and climate change .
Air pollution is a public health issue , causing 467,000 premature deaths a year across Europe . Air pollution is a cause of cancers , cardiovascular diseases like strokes , and respiratory problems such as asthma . European Environment Agency , 2016
We will generate sophisticated models to identify the options available to each city to tackle these issues . At the end of the project , a ‘ policy package ’ will be delivered to each partner city to inform their future policy .
