Lucretia Mott, born Lucretia Coffin on January 3 of 1793, on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, was the second of five children born to Anna Folgers and Thomas Coffin Jr. Lucretia, along with her four other siblings were raised in a strong Quaker family. Her family believed that women and men were equal. Her parents proved this, by showing that women could work and do pretty much everything men can do, because Thomas Coffin Jr. (father) was barely around due to his line of work as a ship captain, so Anna Folgers (mother) worked as a storekeeper and took care of the children most of the time..
