City Services Satisfaction Survey 2003 City Services Satisfaction Survey | Page 13

Neighborhoods Most Arlington residents rate their neighborhoods favorably in terms of quality of life (82% “excellent” or “good”). Speeding on neighborhood streets is perceived as the most widespread problem in city neighborhoods. Among other areas identified most often as neighborhood problems are car burglaries, the condition of major streets in or near neighborhoods, residential burglaries, condition of residential streets, stray animals, street lighting, and dilapidated fences. All of these are viewed as at least minor problems by more than one-third of Arlington residents. Residents’ perceptions of neighborhood problems were consistent with measures from the two previous years, with no significant differences. Most residents feel very safe in their neighborhoods during the day, and one out of three say they would feel very safe walking alone in their neighborhood at night. Residents would feel much less safe walking alone at night in another Arlington neighborhood or in a neighborhood in Fort Worth, and even less safe walking alone at night in a neighborhood in Dallas.
