The City’s adopted military units – the 1st Battalion, 4th
Marine Regiment, and the Navy guided-missile destroyer,
the USS Stockdale, are constantly on the move to keep our
nation safe. The units are currently home until their next
deployment scheduled for October 2018. In March 2018, the
LNMSC approved the adoption of the 1st Assault Helicopter
Battalion, 140th Aviation Regiment, and is scheduled for
Council consideration in April 2018.
The LNMSC hosted an Army Organization Day to welcome
military members of this unit at Crown Valley Park for an
eventful afternoon of recognition and remembrance. The
event was attended by over 250 people where they enjoyed
a family barbeque and some fun at the Sprayground,
playground, and pool.
One of the ways the LNMSC supports our adopted military
families is by providing baby care packages for expectant
mothers. These packages include diaper bags filled with
baby supplies and necessities. The LNMSC had a Baby Care
Package Drive at Walmart, which was a huge success! The
LNMSC is currently planning a 1st Battalion, 4th Marines
Family Day in May 2018, and a USS Stockdale Family Day
event in June 2018.
The LNMSC is also working on plans for other fundraising
events throughout the year including car washes, car
package drives, toy drives and holiday dinners for the
military families. Check our website at lnmilitarysupport.org
for updates on the LNMSC activities.
Safe Management of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)
Household hazardous materials such as paint, motor oil, antifreeze,
garden products, specific cleaning products, and other chemicals
used or generated at home, should never reach the street gutters
or storm drains. Our storm drains discharge to wetlands and creeks
and eventually to the ocean. Hazardous materials can remain in the
drains and get carried to our water bodies by stormwater on a rainy
day. Never dispose of those materials in the storm drains or in areas
that could wash to the drains. For more information about free and
safe disposal options visit oclandfills.com/hazardous.

You Are Not Alone
(YANA) Program
The YANA program is a free service offered to Laguna
Niguel residents who primarily live alone, providing them
a sense of security and ease of mind. Police Services
senior volunteers will check on the welfare of residents
either in person or by phone typically twice a week. If
the resident does not answer the door or phone call,
an emergency contact person will be notified to check
on the resident’s welfare. A deputy sheriff may also be
called upon for assistance during these instances. The
YANA program does not take the participant to the
doctor’s office, run errands or administer medications.
