Have
you
noticed
screens on some of the
City’s curbside storm
water catch basins? The
City of Laguna Niguel,
along with the other
cities in our region has
been installing screens
on some of the curbside
storm drain catch basins to prevent trash from entering
the drains. The screens known as Automatic Retractable
Screens (ARS), catch trash, leaves, and debris in the gutter,
which make it available for removal by the street sweeping
equipment during dry weather. During rain events, the ARS
opens to prevent flooding. This is expected to significantly
reduce the trash load from our City to the storm drain
system, our creeks and wetlands, and eventually the ocean.
Although this program is expanding, it is not feasible to
install these screens on every catch basin in the City.

Please help us reduce the amount of trash in our storm
drain system. Please do not leave trash on the streets,
sidewalks, or gutter, unless you are putting it in a trash bin.
If you live in a community managed by a Home Owners
Association (HOA), please make sure no one leaves trash,
debris, or leaves on the streets, sidewalks, or gutters, or
dumps their materials in a storm water catch basin.
If you have any questions, or would like more information
on the City’s storm drains, please feel free to contact the
City’s Public Works Department at (949) 362-4337.
