COMMUNITY WORKSHOP: LIVING WITH COYOTES IN LAGUNA NIGUEL Join us for a screening of the new restoration of the award winning 1928 silent film classic, “The Passion of Joan of Arc”, with a modern neoclassical score composed and performed by indie-electronic artist George Sarah and his 8-piece ensemble. Commissioned by the LA Grand Performances to create an unforgettable music experience, George Sarah blends his chamber music, rhythms, and electronic keyboard, along with his string quartet and chamber singers to create a modern and Gregorian sound to follow Joan on her sorrowful journey. This French film, written and directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer, convinced the world that movies could be art. Renée Falconetti gives one of the greatest performances ever recorded on film as the young maiden who died for God and France in 1431. This film, chronicles the trial of Joan of Arc in the final hours leading to her execution. The ecclesiastical jurists attempt to force Joan to recant her claims of holy visions. Spiritual rapture and institutional hypocrisy are brought to life in one of the most transcendent achievements of the silent era. Considered one of the best films ever made by more than 100 critics, George Sarah has brought “The Passion of Joan of Arc” to musical life at Film Festivals across the nation including Texas, Sacramento, and Orange County’s Soka Performing Art Center and Bowers Museum. While this film is not rated, we give it a PG-13. Roger Ebert gives it 4 out of 4 stars, and 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., with a no-host bar. Film begins at 7:30 p.m., followed by a question and answer period.
