City Manager's Annual Report Annual Report 2018 | A Year In Review | Page 2

MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL Dear Citizens and Readers, MAYOR GREGORY J. ORAVEC [email protected] DISTRICT 3 As I hope you have discovered, we’re building something special in Port St. Lucie: A Safe, Beautiful and Prosperous City for All People—Your Hometown. To deliver on this vision and our great promise, here at City Hall and across our more than 120 square miles, your elected City Council and I, along with the appointed City Manager and City Administration, are focused on carrying out a strategic plan that is updated every year based upon your input (http://www.cityofpsl.com/strategicplan). An important part of bringing the strategic plan to life is measuring our performance through objective indicators and reporting our results to you, our citizens. Over the year, we try to stay in constant contact, inviting your involvement and reporting on our community’s progress through many mediums, including the Annual Citizen Summit, Annual Citizen Survey, public workshops, City Council meetings, PSL TV 20, www. cityofpsl.com, radio, print, direct mail, digital newsletters, social media and news outlets; and at the end of the year, we publish a comprehensive year in review, this aptly named “The City Manager’s Annual Report”. VICE MAYOR SHANNON MARTIN Looking back at 2018 through The City Manager’s Annual Report, you will find many of our organization’s accomplishments and most of the year’s City-related “big stories”. SHANNON.MARTIN@ CITYOFPSL.COM Since this document is made for you, we would love to hear about the accomplishments DISTRICT 1 that mean the most to you and any that we missed. From my perspective, our community enjoyed several successes in 2018 that will have a profoundly positive impact on our future and are worth celebrating: the safest large city in Florida became safer; Martin Health System’s Tradition Medical Center became The Cleveland Clinic—Tradition Hospital; the City won a $3 million Governor’s Job Growth Grant Incentive Award, which, in turn, helped us expand our manufacturing sector with City Electric Supply and Oculus Surgical leading the way; we assumed ownership and control of the 1,200+ acre Interstate 95 Jobs Corridor and welcomed Mattamy Homes, North America’s largest COUNCILWOMAN STEPHANIE MORGAN private home builder, to Tradition; we lowered the property tax rate for the third year in STEPHANIE.MORGAN@ a row and cut our debt by 27.5% from its peak; and, of course, no report of 2018 could CITYOFPSL.COM be complete without highlighting the half-cent sales tax improvement program. The DISTRICT 2 development of the program, and the associated public education campaign, which is detailed at www.cityofpsl.com/salestax, was one of last year’s greatest priorities; and the voters’ response in the November election delivered one of our greatest victories. Thanks to our voters and concerned citizens, an even better Port St. Lucie is now under construction; and when we say, “we’re building something special in PSL”, we know that we’re talking about more than just a metaphor. COUNCILMAN JOHN CARVELLI JOHN.CARVELLI@ CITYOFPSL.COM DISTRICT 4 Yes, we are building something special in Port St. Lucie, figuratively and quite literally. Our city government and our community are moving in the right direction. We’re bringing our vision to life; and, if we stay true to our values and our citizen-driven strategic planning process, if we keep working hard, smart and together, then I believe we will celebrate many more great successes in 2019, and our best is yet to come. If ever you want to discuss building a better Port St. Lucie or if ever we can be of service, please do not hesitate to contact us at 772-871-5159.
