In October, the contractor, Archer Western, conducted a tour with Port St. Lucie Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack 448. The Crosstown Parkway Extension Project will provide a new bridge crossing over the North Fork of the St. Lucie River, connecting the existing Crosstown Parkway from Manth Lane to U.S. Highway 1 at Village Green Drive. The project is approximately two miles long with the bridge being approximately 4,000 feet. The six-lane divided highway and bridge will serve as a multi-modal transportation alternative to include accommodations for automobile, bicycle, pedestrian and public transit. Upon completion in Fall 2019, it will relieve traffic congestion on the busy Port St. Lucie and Prima Vista Boulevards. It will provide new recreational opportunities, such as a canoe launch and overlooks. And, it will improve public safety and emergency response times, providing an additional evacuation route in emergencies. The bridge project hit several important milestones in 2018, including the completion of pile driving and beam installations. Residents can look forward to a community celebration when the bridge opens in 2019. To stay up-to- date or to learn the history of this project, please visit www.crosstownextention.com.
