Cultural artist Agustina Diez Sierra, photographer Maggie
Rife Ponce, and dance teacher and documentarian Jaycee
Gossett traveled to the Philippines, where they immersed
themselves in the culture. Through interviews, shared meals,
dancing, photojournalism and art, they connected with
Filipino life on a level that went beyond a guide book.
Deeply moved by their experience, this trip inspired the
creation of The Connection Art Project, a multi-faceted
art installation combining film, photography, dance and
art to foster connections between different communities
across geographic and cultural divides. Their first exhibit
was held at Industrious Office in Chicago’s River North
in October 2013.
This year on October 2, 2014, The Connection Art Project
has been invited by the South Loop Alliance of Chicago to
transform an alleyway into another cultural experience.
To further facilitate relationships between people from
different backgrounds, The Connection Art Project is
introducing a local, quarterly dining experience.
