ANALYSIS OF TRENDS IN OVERSEAS TRAVEL IN THE FOUR COUNTRIES IN THE NORTHEAST ASIA REGION FROM 2010 TO 2012 The number of travellers to Japan was affected by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, and the values were negative in Q2 and Q3 of 2011. In terms of the exchange rate, the Taiwanese dollar weakened against the Japanese yen in the second half of 2010 and the second half of 2011. In addition, in August 2012 tension increased between Japan and South Korea following the visit of South Korean President Lee Myung-bak to Takeshima Island. In terms of the exchange rate, dur- ing this period the Japanese yen trended strongly against the South Korean won, but then weakened from Q4 of 2012. Overall, the number of travellers to Taiwan increased. For the exchange rate, the yen generally trended strongly against the Taiwanese dollar, but then weak- ened against it from the second half of 2012. 4. Conclusion The trends in overseas travellers in the four countries of China, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan in the Northeast Asia region can be summarized as follows. The number of travellers from China increased overwhelmingly compared to those from the other countries and the region.
