CINEMA, DESTINATION IMAGE & PLACE BRANDING Table 1 Outbound departure growth as compared with the same period of the previous year Source: Statistic offices, national tourism organizations in respective country, collected and compiled by JTB Foundation 2) South Korea Figure 2 shows the number of overseas travellers from South Korea in all of the quarters from 2010 to 2012, with each of the quarters in 2009 set as 100. During this period, apart from travel to Japan, compared to 2009 the val- ues were positive (namely, the number of travellers increased) in each of the four quarters for all of the four countries and the region. The number of travellers heading to China can basically be described as being stable, but when we look at the year-on-year comparison, we see that there was an increase in 2010, basically no change in 2011, and a slight decrease in 2012. The number of travellers heading to Taiwan rose in all the quarters com- pared to 2009, and they also increased in every quarter in the year-on-year comparison. Conversely, from 2010 to Q1 of 2011, the number of travellers to Japan greatly increased, but then showed negative values for Q2, Q3, and Q4 of 2011. In the year-on-year comparison, the value was negative up to Q1 of 2011, but has been positive since Q2 of 2012. 200 return to the content page
