ANALYSIS OF TRENDS IN OVERSEAS TRAVEL IN THE FOUR COUNTRIES IN THE NORTHEAST ASIA REGION FROM 2010 TO 2012 this factor will be analyzed in a later section and in this section, each quarter in the years 2010 to 2012 will be compared to its corresponding quarter in 2009. 1) China Figure 1 shows the number of overseas travellers from China in all of the quarters from 2010 to 2012, with each of the quarters in 2009 set as 100. During this period, the increase in the number of overseas travellers was over- whelming large in China compared to the other three countries in the region. There was a particularly large increase in the number of travellers to Taiwan. While this increase could also be seen in 2011, in the year-on-year comparison (Table 1), we see that the increases in 2010 and 2012 were especially large. There was also a major increase in the number of travellers heading to South Korea. This trend appeared after Q2 of 2011, and was particularly large in Q2 and Q3 of 2012. In the year-on-year comparison, we see that there were significant increases in Q2 and Q3 of 2010. Conversely, while there was a gradual increase in the number of travellers to Japan, the totals were below the 2009 benchmark of 100 in Q4 of 2010, Q1 and Q2 of 2011, and Q4 of 2012. Looking at the year-on-year comparison, we see there were declines compared to the same quarter in the previous year in Q4 of 2010, Q1 and Q2 of 2011, and Q4 of 2012. Figure 1.
